The Coronation of Charles the Great

Post by Thrace on Mon Nov 02, 2015 11:33 am

Veranium. The Jewel of the East. The Queen of Cities. The Lord's City. After being created by the great Zeno Valarys, the first Thracian-Roman Emperor, Veranium stood proud as the Second Rome, the only true heir of the Ancient Rome. Even after the end of the Veranian Empire, called the Western Roman Empire by its inhabitants, the Holy Thracian Empire proudly maintained the tradition, keeping Rome's inheritance in the West alive.

Standing in the edge of the Thracia Peninsula, Veranium as protected from three sides by the water and big walls, and from the other side by the great double Arthurian Walls and the mighty triple Alexandrian Walls. The city was dominated by the Sancta Sophia Cathedral, with its golden cupolas, and by the Great Imperial Palace, with it's high black towers. The city was filled with monuments, Ancient buildings and big palaces. And today, the city, and the entire Holy Thracian Empire were going to have a new Emperor.

Sancta Sophia Cathedral

A large number of people was waiting for the beginning of the coronation, in and out of the mighty Sancta Sophia Cathedral. The golden cupolas were shining in the light of the sun, marking the beginning of a new era.

Escorted by Imperial Guards in their black with gold parade uniforms, the red eyed Prince Charles entered the cathedral that was filled with people, heading to the altar. He was wearing a complicated black, gold and purple outfit, that was symbolizing his future role as the Lord's chosen Emperor. All his clothes were practically shining, and as he advanced, all people bowed.  Charles recognized his brothers and sisters among the public, and if course, Julia, who was looking like a goddess in her long, purple dress. Charles took a deep breath as he knelt in front of the Patriarch. He was ready.

"I, the unworthy Prince Charles Verayne, came here in front of you today, humble, but ready. With the judgment of the most noble magnates, the most glorious Senate, and the consent of the sacred people of the Holy Empire, I came here today to take charge of the Empire of the Romans and of the Thracians, under the guidance of the clemency of our Holy Lord. "
Lord, have mercy on him! Carolus, tu vinctas! Our Lord shall keep a pious Emperor! A glorious Emperor! A powerful Emperor! A righteous Emperor! Our Holy Lord gave thee, and He will keep thee!
"How great is the burden that will be laid on me! But I am not ignorant! I will maintain the Holy Empire's glory and power, and I will lead the legacy of the Eternal Rome!"
"He's worthy! Worthy of the Empire! Worthy of the City! Worthy of the Throne! Worthy of the Empire! Worthy of the City! Worthy of the Crown!"
"May God help me in making my choices. May He protect and help us all!"
"He, in whom you believe, He will save you! As you have lived, so reign! You have loved righteously, rule righteously! The future of the Roman conquests is in your hands, Carolus! Bring glory to the Holy Empire!"

The Patriarch took the golden Roman Crown, the crown of the last Roman Emperor that was taken by Zeno and brought to Varanium, the crown of all Veranian and Thracian Emperors.
"Carolus Princeps, do you swear to rule by the people and for the people? Do you swear to uphold the glory and might of the Holy Empire, and to lead its armies to victory? Do you swear to make all your choices in the interest of the Senate and People of the Holy Thracian Empire, as the Holy Lord will help you?",
"I swear. So may our Holy Lord help me.", Charles said. The Patriarch gently out the crown on the white haired boy's head.
"Then rise, Carolus, Imperator Romanorum et Autokrator Thracum!"

Charles, Emperor of the Holy Thracian Empire, Emperor of the Romans, Autokrator of the Thracians and King of the West stood up, with the crown on his head, taking the scepter and turning around. The Imperial Guards raised him on a shield, and as they started to walk towards the Senate, all the Thracians were shouting.
Ave, Carolus Imperator! Ave, Carolus Autokrator!Ave, Carolus Imperator! Ave, Carolus Autokrator!

The Thracian Senate Palace, Veranium

The entire Senate had gathered today, on the 1st of December in Our Lord's year 1586, to witness the ceremony where the new Emperor, Charles IV, was suppose to pledge his allegiance to "the Senate and People of Thrace". An old, simple ceremony, but one that was showing just how much influence the Senate had started to have on the internal affairs of the Holy Thracian Empire.

While the Senators were slowly taking their places, Charles was waiting. Next to him was of course, his sister, Princess Julia. She looked as calm as ever, despite the thing Charles was just about to do. Behind the two were their younger brother, the blonde and blue eyed, Prince and Admiral Francis Verayne, and the blue haired and purple eyed Princess Theodora Verayne, their younger sister. Francis was just named Admiral of the Grand Imperial Fleet by Charles, so he was certainly going to follow them in the already planned Second Conquest of the East. Theodora also wanted to come, despite their mother's, the old Empress's advice. Well, whatever. This was about to start soon. Charles turned to look at the filled hall, and started to speak.

"Most esteemed Senators, you've come here, expecting me to swear an oath, right? Well, I will swear no oath, and I won't pledge my allegiance! I was crowned by God himself, not by the church! My power is divine! You think that I am too young to rule the land, right? You fail to understand something though. I was born to rule, and my time has come! No man, alive or dead will command me, I answer to the Lord! You will hear my orders! Question me, and die! What I said, was said in heaven, and so it shall be done! I know that I was destined to rule alone, and this is why I claim the throne for myself! Everything shall be mine, there is no stopping me! All over the world my rule shall be questioned by none! Hear my decree! As of now, the Thracian Senate is now disbanded! It will be replaced with a Crown Council at my choice, that will give me advice, but I will take all decisions. The corrupt nobles will give all their wealth to the Crown before leaving in exile, or they will face death. All the other nobles shall swear their allegiance to me, not to the Senate and People of Thrace as before.

Most of the senators were about to stand up and protest, when a large number of Imperial Guards entered the hall, with their muskets ready.

As of now, all serfs will be freed, and they will receive the land they are currently working on. The era when the corrupt nobles were leading our glorious Holy Empire is over. I'm going to take the Old Rome, and recreate an Empire with freedom for all. All the known world shall kneel in front of me. For God and the Holy Empire!"

The Imperial Guards saluted and started to shout, soon followed by the (forced) Senators.
For God and the Holy Empire! Ave, Carolus Imperator! Ave, Carolus Imperator! Ave, Carolus Imperator!
